Dimitrios Papadimoulis and Gianni Pittela (chairman of S&D) meet in Strasbourg

 

 

 

 

 

 

Greek SYRIZA MEP and Vice-President of the EP, Dimitrios Papadimoulis, had a meeting in Strasburg with Gianni Pittella, Chairman of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D).
Mr. Papadimoulis briefed G. Pitella on the objectives of the program of SYRIZA, ahead of the upcoming elections of January 25th. He also stressed the need for a general shift of the Eurozone from the one-sided austerity to a European “New Deal” towards development, by strengthening the cohesion policy and by giving a European political response to the problem of public debt.

Gianni Pitella emphasised the need for Europe to escape from the policy of one-sided austerity: “We must respect the choices of the Greek people suffering from the one-sided and long austerity. I believe that the restructuring of the Greek debt is necessary”.

The meeting was held on January 12th in Strasbourg, after a call by Dimitrios Papadimoulis.
